Volunteer Opportunities at ReStore Elgin & ReStore Arlington Heights

Volunteers play a crucial role in our mission to support Habitat for Humanity. Join us to make a difference in your community!

1. Donation Pick-Up Volunteer

Description: Assist with collecting donated items from various locations.

Primary Functions:

  • Pick-Up Donations: Help load and transport donated items to the ReStore.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate with donors and ensure items are in good condition.
  • Logistics: Coordinate pick-up schedules and manage donation inventory.

Schedule:

  • ReStore Elgin: Daily, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • ReStore Arlington Heights: Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

2. Receiving/Warehousing Volunteer

Description: Support the intake and organization of donated items.

Primary Functions:

  • Item Processing: Sort and organize incoming donations.
  • Inventory Management: Track items and prepare them for the sales floor.
  • Warehouse Maintenance: Ensure a clean and organized warehouse environment.

Schedule:

  • ReStore Elgin: Daily, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • ReStore Arlington Heights: Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

3. Merchandise Processing Volunteer

Description: Prepare and price items for sale on the sales floor.

Primary Functions:

  • Item Preparation: Clean, repair, and price donated items.
  • Merchandise Display: Arrange items on the sales floor and set up displays.
  • Product Knowledge: Provide information about products to customers.

Schedule:

  • ReStore Elgin: Daily, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • ReStore Arlington Heights: Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

4. Sales Floor Customer Service/Clerical Volunteer

Description: Assist customers and manage sales floor operations.

Primary Functions:

  • Customer Assistance: Help customers find items and answer questions.
  • Checkout Operations: Operate the register and process transactions.
  • Clerical Tasks: Perform administrative tasks such as filing and data entry.

Schedule:

  • ReStore Elgin: Daily, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • ReStore Arlington Heights: Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

5. Court-Ordered Community Service

Description: Provide community service hours as required by court orders.

Primary Functions:

  • Service Hours: Perform tasks assigned based on your court order.
  • Eligibility: Must have at least 30 hours to serve and meet specific eligibility criteria.

Schedule:

  • ReStore Elgin: Daily, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • ReStore Arlington Heights: Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Note: We do not accept individuals with certain criminal backgrounds.

6. ReStore Orientation Volunteer

Description: Attend orientation to become a new volunteer or community service worker.

Primary Functions:

  • Orientation: Learn about ReStore’s mission, volunteer roles, and procedures.
  • Engagement: Get ready for your volunteer experience at Elgin or Arlington Heights.

Schedule:

7. Special Events Volunteer

Description: Assist with special fundraising and community events.

Primary Functions:

  • Event Support: Help with planning, setup, and running of events.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with attendees and support event activities.

Schedule: Based on event dates.

8. Volunteer Coordinator Assistant

Description: Help manage and organize volunteer activities and schedules.

Primary Functions:

  • Coordination: Assist with volunteer scheduling and communication.
  • Support: Provide support to the Volunteer Coordinator in managing tasks and events.

Schedule: Flexible hours.

9. Social Media & Outreach Volunteer

Description: Help promote ReStore and engage with the community through social media.

Primary Functions:

  • Social Media Management: Create and schedule posts, and manage interactions.
  • Outreach: Promote events and campaigns to the community.

Schedule: Flexible hours.

10. Grounds Maintenance Volunteer

Description: Maintain and improve the outdoor spaces at ReStore locations.

Primary Functions:

  • Landscaping: Mow lawns, trim bushes, and maintain outdoor areas.
  • Seasonal Tasks: Snow removal in winter and gardening in warmer months.

Schedule: Flexible hours, depending on seasonal needs.

Additional Information

  • Court-Ordered Community Service: Accepted for individuals with at least 30 hours.
  • Not Accepted: Individuals with convictions for Shoplifting, Burglary, Physical/Domestic Violence, Cruelty to Animals, or Drug-Related Offenses.
