U-46 Seeks Community Input on Name for New Middle School in Elgin

Nominations due by September 19

ELGIN, Ill. — School District U-46 is inviting the community to submit nominations to help name the new middle school currently under construction in Elgin. The school is expected to be open to welcome sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students for the 2027-28 school year.

Through September 19, students, parents, employees, alumni, and community members can submit name suggestions online. Nominations must follow Board Policy 4:150, which guides the naming of public school facilities.

The policy allows for names that reflect community values or honors individuals who have made significant contributions to society or education.

A community town hall will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, at Hilltop Elementary School, 1855 Rohrssen Road, Elgin, to gather feedback.

A name recommendation is scheduled to be presented on Monday, October 20, to the U-46 Board of Education, and the BOE is expected to vote on the name at its meeting on Monday, November 3.

The new middle school, which will be 193,000 square feet and provide learning spaces for about 1,125 students, is being constructed thanks to the community’s support of the $179 million Unite U-46 bond proposal in April 2023.
