The other highlight of our summer events included two back to school events for two of our large school districts here in 66, D300 and D47. Both were very successful and heavily attended. In fact, D47 ran out of supplies and because of our relationships we’ve built, we were able to connect D47 to D300 who had extra supplies so more families and children were able to get what they needed to make this school year a successful one. I applaud the efforts of the amazing volunteers who made both events possible. My office is more than happy to help with the effort. |

By now you know that the federal government and the current administration is continuing to place a heavier burden on states for programs it deems as non-essential or not the federal government’s job. I would disagree with this assessment. Most recently the federal government ended the “solar for all” program right at a time when our energy needs are greatest. This is an example of how harnessing multi-state resources through the federal government can reduce the costs to states and its a great example of how the government can be a force for good. As we look for ways in IL to ensure that we continue building a sustainable future, I am also committed to ensuring we take care of our most vulnerable citizens. That is my charge as I begin considering legislative priorities for the upcoming session. |

I will be talking about the impact of the cuts, the State budget, and legislative priorities at my upcoming town hall in September. You will receive a separate email with the date, time, and place. I hope you can make it. If you have any suggestions or priorities you’d like to share with me, please contact my office. I’d love to hear from you. |

Conference of Women Legislators Scholarship Opportunity |
As co-chair of COWL, Conference of Women Legislators, I am excited to share this scholarship opportunity with eligible individuals throughout the State of Illinois. Our organization aims to support women in their pursuit of education, regardless of the obstacles they may face. We raise funds throughout the year for this program, and it is a highlight to be able to uplift women this way.
The Women Influencing Second Encore (W.I.S.E.) Scholarship is awarded to women aged 25 or older who are pursuing their bachelor’s degree. Application materials must be uploaded to the online form by midnight on September 5, 2025, to be considered, and COWL will send a notification to all scholarship awardees by November 1, 2025. If you have any questions about the application process, please send an email to Cowlillinois@gmail.com. |
