LRS, City of Elgin to Host Community Recycling Event Aug. 2
LRS, in partnership with the city of Elgin, will host a community recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Elgin Public Works Facility, 1900 Holmes Road.
The event is open to all Elgin residents that live within city limits—not just those enrolled in the city’s curbside collection program—and provides an opportunity to recycle electronic waste, dispose of household bulk items and securely shred personal documents.
“While Elgin’s municipal waste contract with LRS provides electronic recycling for the over 33,000 households in the curbside program, this event broadens access to include all Elgin residents, including those living in multi-family homes who do not receive curbside services under the contract terms,” said Aaron Neal, director of public works. “By offering electronic recycling, bulk item disposal, and secure document shredding, we’re promoting a cleaner, more sustainable community. Events like this help divert materials from landfills, prevent illegal dumping, protect personal information and ensure that every resident has access to responsible waste management solutions.”
The cost to participate is $20 per vehicle, cash only. Proof of Elgin residency is required upon entry. While many items are accepted, additional fees may apply for certain large items. Limits are also in place for shredding and accepted materials.
All residents are encouraged to review the full list of accepted items, fees and restrictions in advance. Details are available on the Elgin/LRS portal.
The event is part of the city’s ongoing effort to provide convenient and sustainable waste disposal options for the community.
