Local Girl Scout Council Receives $20,000 Grant

from Girl Scouts of the USA

Northern Illinois – Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) received a generous $20,000 grant from Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). Funds from this grant are aimed at supporting Hispanic membership growth within the organization through strategic, intentional marketing and outreach efforts. This grant enabled GSNI to host 30 culturally engaging member recruitment and retention events throughout the summer, designed to welcome and celebrate Hispanic families within the community.

These events featured a diverse range of hands-on activities that reflect cultural traditions and foster educational enrichment, including the creation of vibrant Talavera Tile Art and Adelita Dolls, alongside exciting STEAM-focused experiences such as bubble science experiments and introductory coding projects.

This fall, GSNI will also host three “Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Girl Scouts” events. The public is invited to make paper flowers, craft picture frames, and play a few rounds of Loteria—all while learning about Girl Scouts. Participants can earn the Girl Scout Hispanic Heritage Multicultural fun patch! The events will be from 5:30–7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, at the Girl Scout Resource Center, 353 Randall Road, in South Elgin, and on Tuesday, September 30, at the Girl Scout Resource Center, 1886 Daimler Road, in Rockford. There will also be an event in the Aurora area on Thursday, September 18.

Through this initiative, GSNI is committed to creating inclusive, welcoming spaces where every Girl Scout feels seen, celebrated, and inspired to grow! GSNI would like to thank GSUSA for supporting the Girl Scout Mission locally in northern Illinois, where future community leaders have a space all their own, where their interests, their experience, and their leadership—today and tomorrow—is the top priority!
