Kane County Introduces Enhanced Countywide Coordinated Paratransit Program
The longtime Ride in Kane Program has transitioned to a new, countywide Coordinated Ride model—making it easier for riders to register, schedule trips and access transportation. The enhanced program features one system, one set of rules and the same travel destinations for all eligible residents across Kane County.
Since 2008, Ride in Kane has helped seniors (65+) and individuals with disabilities get where they need to go—whether that's a medical appointment, work, or another approved destination—through an advance-reservation transportation service. Over time, however, the program has been administered by more than 18 different community sponsors, which led to variations in eligibility, rules and access depending on where someone lived.
Under the new coordinated system, Pace Suburban Bus will continue operating the dial-a-ride service but will now manage a single rider registration system and a centralized call center. This provides riders with one place to register and schedule their rides.
There are nearly 10,000 registered riders with Ride in Kane, with an estimated 400 riders using the program consistently each month. Ride in Kane averages about 44 new registered riders per month with an approximately 5,000 rides per month.
