Groundbreaking Ceremonies

U-46 to begin work construction this spring at

Glenbrook Elementary School and Larkin High School’s Athletic Complex

Groundbreaking ceremonies to mark the start of construction on two projects.

Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 3:30 p.m. - Groundbreaking ceremony for an athletic complex at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. The project will include a modern stadium, track, updated locker rooms, and enhanced concessions, restrooms, and seating for spectators. Larkin High School was built in 1962 but has never had its own athletic complex. The new complex will allow the Royals to play their home football and soccer games at Larkin, following decades of playing at other sites.

Tuesday, March 3, at 3:30 p.m. - Groundbreaking ceremony for additions and renovations to Glenbrook Elementary School, 315 Garden Circle, Streamwood. Glenbrook Elementary, built in 1971, will undergo 35,000 square feet of interior renovations to improve natural light, student circulation, and learning environments, as well as 14,000 square feet of new additions. The work at Glenbrook is part of the Unite U-46 initiative to enhance the educational experience for students. Glenbrook students and staff will be reassigned to the Hanover Countryside building for the 2026-27 school year while renovations in the existing building start this June; work is expected to be completed by August 2027.

U-46 Superintendent Dr. Suzanne Johnson, Board of Education members, administrators, local elected officials, and students.

Media interested in covering either of the groundbreaking ceremonies should contact Tara Burghart at 847-888-5000, ext. 5300
