Gail Borden Library's South Elgin Branch Closes August 12 for Expansion

Career & Education EAC Member Company Local Communities Elgin Area Chamber

Gail Borden Library’s South Elgin Branch located at 127 South McLean Blvd., South Elgin, Illinois will close on August 12 for a wonderful reason. When it reopens in the early summer of 2025, the customer space will have almost tripled and there will be many new amenities for users.

Customers will enjoy –

An enlarged children’s area and activities room;

More study rooms;

An enlarged meeting room;

A baby garden;

A wellness/parent’s/staff room;

And much more.

“With South Elgin’s growing community, we are so excited to enlarge the South Elgin Branch. We look forward to welcoming all the young families as well as people of all ages,” said Carole Medal, CEO of Gail Borden Public Library. “People are going to love this 'new and improved' Library. We are closing so that construction can be completed faster and we can open sooner in 2025. "

While construction is taking place, the current South Elgin Branch staff will be temporarily relocated to the Rakow, Main and mobile services as needed. The South Elgin book return will continue to be maintained during this closure and we encourage people to use Main, Rakow and mobile services for their library enjoyment.

The Gail Borden bookmobile will be visiting the South Elgin Branch parking lot on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 am - 1 pm, starting Wednesday, September 4.

We also are asking people to consider being permanently part of the South Elgin’s Branch future by investing in a named leaf, shelf or room. See more at https://gailborden.info/foundation/southelginbranch.
