The Elgin Master Chorale board of directors recently announced the appointment of Tyler Hast as the organization’s new executive director. This strategic leadership transition marks a significant milestone in the chorale’s esteemed 77-year history, celebrated for its artistic excellence and community outreach.


Hast, a native of Silvis, Illinois, brings a lifelong dedication to the arts and communities. He holds master’s degrees in Voice Performance from Roosevelt University and Arts Administration from Florida State University. His professional journey is distinguished by his multifaceted experience in both performance and administration, demonstrating a unique blend of artistic and managerial expertise.

Hast has held roles with the College of Music at Florida State University, the Tallahassee Community Chorus, and the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association that showcased his ability to drive sustainable growth and foster community connections. In these positions, he spearheaded initiatives that increased membership, improved marketing outreach, and strengthened community ties.

He is committed to the mission and legacy of the Elgin Master Chorale. “I am deeply honored to join the Elgin Master Chorale and have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome from this vibrant community,” Hast said. “I look forward to building on the strong foundation established by my predecessor, Steve Martin, and advancing our mission of bringing exceptional choral music to the community.”


Hast’s enthusiasm for the arts is matched by his dedication to community service and engagement. He is passionate about creating inclusive environments where music can thrive and inspire. His vision for the chorale includes expanding outreach programs, fostering new collaborations, and enhancing the overall experience for both performers and audiences.

“Tyler possesses an exciting background that syncs well with our current growth in all phases of our organization,” said Dennis Rossow, president of the Elgin Master Chorale board. “Tyler’s vision of the role of performing arts in the community will help us build on our ever-expanding outreach in the Fox Valley.”

Hast officially assumed his role as executive director on June 24, 2024. The Elgin Master Chorale community is enthusiastic about the fresh perspective and dynamic leadership he will provide.

The Elgin Master Chorale will be joined by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra for its Oct. 27 season opener, which features Robert Hanson’s “Psalms of David.”

The Elgin Master Chorale has been a cornerstone of the Elgin community for over 77 years, uniting talented singers and passionate music enthusiasts. The Chorale is committed to the highest standards of excellence in creating and performing choral music for the joy, enrichment, and education of its audiences and members.


Under the artistic direction of its esteemed leadership, the Chorale continues to deliver performances that deeply resonate with audiences. The season opens with Robert Hanson’s “Psalms of David” on Oct. 27 backed by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

The season continues when the chorale joins the Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s “Holiday Spectacular” (Dec. 14-15). Then in the spring, it will be J.S. Bach’s profound “St. John’s Passion” (April 13) and a special performance by the Treble Voices of the Elgin Master Chorale with the ESO of Holst’s “The Planets” (May 3-4).

Finally, new this season, the Elgin Master Chorale is excited to announce an extension to the season with a summer concert celebrating American composers (date to be announced).
