For nearly 60 years, Summit School, Inc. has served Elgin-area preschoolers and special education students from throughout northern Illinois with programming designed to level the playing field in school and beyond. 

Summit Center's free preschool for three-to-five year old at-risk children prepares students for kindergarten with programming to develop social-emotional skills, cognitive skills, math and literacy skills. Speech and language interventions and support services follow students into the public schools to ensure a continuum of learning and care. Family programming helps develop parental skills and knowledge to support children as they grow and enter elementary school. The Center is an ExceleRate Gold Circle of Quality program and the only PFA community-based preschool in the area.

Summit School is a small, therapeutic state-approved program serving an average of 60 students with identified learning, attentional and/or social difficulties, including children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum and emotional disorders, developmental delays, other health impairments, or specific learning disabilities. Summit School students benefit from an array of educational and support services and work with a specialized team of educators, therapists and staff to optimize their success. Curriculum and coursework align with Illinois State Learning Standards tailored to meet individualized learning needs in classes of 10 or less.
