Job Title:     Tool Room Machinist for 2nd Shift 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Summary Assist in the safe production of quality products by setting up and operating conventional, special purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

 

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers, and surface grinders.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications and documenting in computerized system.
  • Set up and operate machine on a trial run to verify the accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts, use gas welding, soldering, and Brazing of carbide parts
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

 

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Advanced Welding Experience: Arc,MIG, and TIG.

Able to fabricate parts using brake and shearing machine. 

Able to use hand power tools, i.e. Jig Saw, Band saw, pedestal grinder, hand grinder, Saw Zal, hand drill.

Able to re-sharpen drill bits and end mills.

Able to use metric and the inch system of measurement, and convert between the two systems.

Autocad or other Computer Aided Drawing programs experience.

 

 

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Bump caps, steel toe safety shoes, and safety glasses are required in all production areas. Hearing protection is encouraged and may be required in specific areas.

  

Physical Demands

  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; hazards common to industrial settings; chemicals, vibration, and loud noises.

 

Safety shoes, safety glasses, chemical-resistant gloves, and bump caps for this position must be worn on the production floor. Other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.

 

Jobs on the production floor require a minimum 40-hour work week. Overtime may be required.

 

The pace of work is steady and fast.

 

Employees are regularly required to stand; walk; use their hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

 

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

 

This position requires sufficient vision to see details at close range, so the person can read and measure.
