Our curriculum focuses on character development far beyond the importance of learning self-defense and proper techniques. We emphasize the importance of respect, accountability, focus, perseverance and how to make healthy choices all while having fun. We empower our students with self-confidence to overcome anxieties and trauma, in an environment that fosters inclusion and social belonging.


Job Summary: An instructor at South Elgin Budokan is a person who has passion for changing lives through day-to-day martial arts instruction. An outgoing leader personality and a team player is a must! This team member will not only teach but will inspire others to do their best. The ideal candidate will work with the owner and Chief Instructor to develop and provide a “best in class” experience for students, families, and staff.


Applicants must have a Black Belt in a traditional style with a strong martial arts technical foundation in karate-like execution, terms, applications and structure. Weapons training a plus. The Martial Arts Instructor position is for afternoons/evenings and possibly Saturday mornings, teaching beginners to advanced ranked youth students. Utilizing the Budokan’s curriculum guidelines, instructors may include their primary style. Our classes are held year-round. We are looking for committed and dedicated instructors for long-term, part-time positions. This position is ideal for college students, parents, & martial artists who have an established occupation and love teaching. This is truly one of the most fun part-time jobs you can imagine. Typically, one to three days a week for 1-2 hours.

Responsibilities

    Develop and implement engaging martial arts lesson plans that promote fitness and teamwork.

    Instruct students in various martial arts techniques, including karate and judo.

    Be a role model in all aspects of martial arts and foster a positive and safe learning environment, ensuring the well-being of all participants.

    Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to enhance their skills.

    Collaborate with parents/guardians to discuss student development and achievements.

Qualifications

    Proven experience in martial arts coaching and teaching, particularly with youth students

    Strong background in martial arts, including Karate and Judo

    Knowledge of physical education principles and child development

    Ability to engage and motivate children in various physical activities,

    Experience in childcare and creating a safe, supportive learning environment


Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 – 6 per week

Schedule:

    Weekday afternoons/early evenings

    Saturday mornings

Education:

    Min. high school graduate or equivalent 

Experience:

    Leadership: min 2 year 

    Teaching martial arts: 2 years 

    Martial Arts: min 5 years
