JOB SUMMARY:  The Receptionist will greet visitors and clients, answer and screen telephone calls directing them to the appropriate staff member.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Answer the telephone, both business and crisis lines, and direct the call to the appropriate staff member and client.

Answer the doorbell and screen all visitors/clients to the agency.

Maintain the reception area activity, including forms, fliers, bookshelf, treats, etc.

Receive and record all walk-in donations.

Receive mail and packages delivered to the building and forward them to the Administrative Assistant for circulation.

Check in volunteers.

Monitor of Scotland Yard for staff absences from the building.

Maintain confidentiality of services.

Attend staff meetings as designated unless the Executive Director waives this requirement.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Supervised by the Economic Crisis Program Coordinator.

Work with all agency employees, volunteers, and student interns as assigned.

No supervisory responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education – High School graduate.

Experience – Prefer prior reception work experience.

Technical Skills – Telephone system familiarity; must have good verbal communication skills; must have receptionist and organizational skills; must be able to respond to clients in person and over the phone with nonjudgmental empathy for a diverse population of clients; ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Social Skills – Must be able to function independently; must demonstrate flexibility and a teamwork capacity within the agency; must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Must also demonstrate courtesy and respect towards all fellow employees, interns, volunteers, visitors, and clients.

Physical Requirements – Must have visual and auditory acuity.  Must be able to lift up to (30) thirty pounds to move donations. Must be able to distinguish both light and audio signals on telephone system.

Transportation Requirements – Must be willing and able to travel throughout the area; if employee uses a privately-owned vehicle, must provide proof of current automobile insurance coverage and annual renewal documentation thereafter.

Attendance – Must maintain an acceptable attendance record.
