Position Description Overview
Active, enthusiastic and caring individual needed to work the 4’s Preschool Pals program at the Municipal Annex in South Elgin. Individual will work from 8:30am-3:30pm Monday, Wednesday, & Friday plus additional prep hours. Responsibilities include interacting with children and their parents. Providing an environment that encourages social growth, along with leading and supervising preschool-age children in activities and worksheets. Pay begins at $16/hour with an annual increase based on performance.
SUPERVISION
This position works under the general supervision of Preschool Teacher who is supervised by the Recreation Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
• Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and enjoy working with preschool age children.
• Must communicate effectively and professionally with children, parents, co-workers, and supervisor.
• Minimum of 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
CLASSROOM RESPONSIBLITIES
• Assist the teacher in planning, supervising, prepping, and implementing the program for the class by providing ideas for classroom activities on a weekly basis.
• Assisting and providing the teacher with materials required to carry out an activity.
• Organize a healthy environment for students by thoroughly wiping, spraying, and cleaning toys in the play area.
• Assist in planning and maintaining a physical environment conducive to meeting the objectives of the school.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Help supervise during outdoor play periods.
• Consider the individual child in relationship to his/her culture and socioeconomic background.
• Treat each child and parent with dignity and respect.
• Help each child become aware of his/her role as an integral member of a group.
• Greet each parent and child as they enter the classroom, making each feel welcome.
• Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
• Arrive at 8am on class days to assist the teacher with set-up for the day’s activities and will stay after class until dismissed by the teacher.
• Other duties assigned as related to the job description.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Outside/Indoor play is required
• Constant interaction with participants and parents
• Bending, kneeling and squatting is required
