Are you a visionary leader who believes libraries should meet communities wherever they are? Gail Borden Public Library is looking for an innovative and collaborative leader to guide and develop dynamic outreach initiatives. This position oversees the planning, strategy, and daily operations of our Mobile Library Services Department, including vehicles, outreach services, and community partnerships. The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated leader who is passionate about bringing the library to the community and who is adept at strategic leadership, community engagement, program development, and operational management.

This role includes both administrative and field-based work, including operating mobile library vehicles and engaging directly with the public. Candidates must be comfortable working in a variety of community settings and weather conditions.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage Mobile Library Services staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Guide and develop a variety of engaging mobile services in the community, including Home Services, Early Literacy Outreach, Elementary School Outreach, Life Enrichment, Tech Mobile, Bookmobile, and Book Bike.
  • Oversee vehicles and operations at the Davis Road Annex, which serves as the home base for the department.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible public library experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Class C License, preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience driving a large vehicle or school bus, preferred.
  • Must have a safe driving record for a minimum of five years.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Library ILS and library outreach experience a plus.
  • Spanish language skills a plus.


Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) - Schedule may include weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Salary: $80,000 - $85,000 per year. Offers are made within this range based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Click here for benefit information.
