Function / Position Summary
The Bilingual Communications Specialist for Community Outreach serves as the communications liaison between U-46 and parents, students and community partners. This includes organizing, implementing and/or participating in family and community engagement initiatives to increase awareness of available programs and resources within U-46 and its schools. The specialist also provides Spanish interpretation services for District events and public meetings, as needed. Flexibility to allow for occasional work outside of scheduled hours and travel within the District and surrounding communities is required.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Interpret at Districtwide events and public meetings.
- Maintain the District’s interpretation equipment and manage the loan and return processes.
- Assist in the development, standardization, and implementation of outreach efforts and goals to improve, plan and promote related programs.
- Support ongoing outreach efforts in the U-46 communities and with community, business, and social service partners.
- Help facilitate various parent leadership programs including the Hispanic/African-American parent leadership institutes, school-based parent leadership institutes and various parent universities and presentations.
- Compose and distribute the District’s weekly family e-newsletter, and other written communications as needed.
- Serve on committees in various communities which help increase community involvement. Take initiative to address these opportunities.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student/staff information in the department and in the community.
- Provide back-up support to the department’s Spanish Translator, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Translation & Interpretation, Business, Education, or Communications preferred.
Experience / Knowledge- Bilingual English/Spanish written/verbal required.
- Three to five years’ experience in Spanish translation & interpretation, communications, or community outreach/social service work.
- Experience working in a communications and/or an educational environment is preferred.
Physical Demands- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, with the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
Terms of Employment- This is a 12-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
- Flexibility in regular schedule necessary. Evening/weekend work required.
The salary range for this position is $42,260.80 - $67,891.20. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($56,576.00).
