Ribbon-Cutting and Groundbreaking Ceremonies

U-46 to celebrate additions, renovations at two middle schools and a groundbreaking for a new elementary school

WHAT: Three ceremonies are planned to mark important milestones for Unite U-46 projects.

RIBBON-CUTTINGS - WHEN, WHERE AND WHY: 

Thursday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. - Ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark completion of renovations and a 46,000-square-foot addition at Kenyon Woods Middle School, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin.

Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. - Ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark completion of renovations and a 53,000-square-foot addition at Kimball Middle School, 451 N. McLean Ave., Elgin.

Note: The renovations and additions will play an important role in U-46’s shift to a true middle school model in which sixth graders will join seventh and eighth graders in middle school, starting with the 2026-27 school year.

GROUNDBREAKING - WHEN, WHERE AND WHY: 

Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 3:30 p.m.- Groundbreaking ceremony for a new elementary school to be built in Elgin at the site of the former David C. Cook property, 850 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. The school will replace McKinley Elementary, which dates to 1887 and is located a half-mile away.

WHO: U-46 Superintendent Dr. Suzanne Johnson, Board of Education members, administrators, local elected officials, and students.

School District U-46 serves families in 11 communities: Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park, South Elgin, Streamwood and Wayne, as well as portions of Carol Stream, Hoffman Estates, St. Charles, Schaumburg, and West Chicago.
