The Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated two ribbon cuttings in support of Hampton, Lenzini, and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) in Elgin.

HLR is an employee-owned professional services firm in Illinois that specializes in providing high-quality transportation engineering, environmental, and surveying services. It currently has five locations: two in Elgin, plus Crystal Lake, Springfield, and Mt. Carmel.

A grand opening of its new Elgin headquarters was held at 1700 North Randall Road on December 14. The grand re-opening of its former Elgin headquarters at 380 Shepard Road was held on December 7.

The Shepard Drive location now serves as the company’s new home for their environmental and surveying divisions. Extensive construction of the site includes the installation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, the addition of 164 solar roof panels, and the transformation of open space into a native garden area at the front of the building. These assets support and symbolize HLR’s dedication to ecological conservation.

“We were honored to be part of HLR’s celebration of its growth within our own community,” said Carol Gieske, CEO and president of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce. “HLR president and chief executive officer Jeni Lyon, a member of our Chamber board of directors, is a strong business leader who is also involved in many of its company’s philanthropic endeavors and community-focused initiatives.”

Lyon has served as HLR's president and CEO since 2018. She has over 30 years of transportation and land surveying experience and is a strong advocate for the future of the land surveying profession. She is extensively involved with the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association (IPLSA).

“Our vision for the future is to continue our organic growth focusing on our very important culture,” said Lyon. “ The need for quality engineering services to improve our aging infrastructure is at unprecedented levels. We have been providing these services to our clients in Illinois for over a half-century and have deep roots in Illinois and specifically in the Elgin area.”

“We are active in the Elgin community and are heavily involved in the Alignment Collaborative for Education to provide middle and high school students with education and internships in the engineering and surveying industries. One of the ways we give back to the community is by teaching young people about the opportunities in our industry for a fulfilling career in one of the highest-demand professions of our time.”

Locally, HLR employs 58 people who work in its Elgin offices and 9 in Crystal Lake. HLR champions its “Work Hard. Have Fun. Give Back”® culture, which has consistently earned the firm the top spot as Employer of Choice® by PSMJ Resources, Inc., the global leader in business management data and guidance for architects and engineers.
