Elgin To Host 25th Anniversary Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony
The City of Elgin will observe Patriot Day and mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, on the west-side steps of Elgin City Hall, 150 Dexter Court.
The program will feature remarks from Mayor Kaptain, Fire Chief Robb Cagann, Police Chief Ana Lalley, and American Legion Post 57 Commander Jason Shanahan.
Police Chaplain Al Keating will offer the opening prayer, and Fire Chaplain Roger Pollock will offer the closing prayer.
Honor guards from the Elgin Fire Department and Elgin Police Department will post and retire the colors during the ceremony.
Vocalists from Larkin High School will perform the National Anthem.
The community is encouraged to attend this commemorative observance and join together in remembrance. For those unable to attend, a recording of the ceremony will be shared on the City of Elgin YouTube channel following the event.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way.
