Elgin Community College is excited to celebrate the grand opening of its new Manufacturing and Technology Center on Thursday, September 24.

The new state-of-the-art facility is designed to expand hands-on training opportunities in manufacturing, technology, and other high-demand workforce fields. The center will support students, local employers, and the regional economy by providing modern learning spaces, industry-aligned equipment, and expanded pathways into skilled careers.

This milestone reflects ECC’s continued commitment to workforce development and preparing students for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Elgin Community College’s Project Backpack Returns August 1

Elgin Community College is proud to host Project Backpack on Saturday, August 1, 2026, providing backpacks, school supplies, and community resources to support students and families of District 509 as they prepare for the new school year. This annual event brings together local partners and service providers to connect families with helpful resources in one convenient location.

Community organizations interested in participating or sharing resources at the event are encouraged to register as a participating agency.

Elgin Community College’s Taking Back the Trades Summer 2026 Program

Elgin Community College’s Taking Back the Trades program offers high school students ages 16 and older hands-on experience in skilled trades through free summer pre-apprenticeship classes and paid internship opportunities.

Students can explore career pathways in areas such as manufacturing, healthcare, fire science, emergency services, culinary arts, education, technology, and more. Participants gain practical, industry-recognized credentials, build hands-on skills, connect with professionals, and gain real-world experience that can help them clarify their career goals.
