Elgin Area Chamber awards scholarships to ten graduating seniors

The Elgin Area Chamber and its economic development program, Elgin Development Group, recently awarded ten $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education and future careers.

Created to recognize and encourage academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement, the scholarship program supports students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to both personal achievement and service to others.

“We are honored to recognize these outstanding students with this year’s scholarships,” said Carol Gieske, president and CEO of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce. “Their commitment to academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement reflects the bright future of Elgin and South Elgin, and we are proud to support them as they continue their educational journeys.”

The scholarships were recently presented during a special recognition gathering at the Chamber office.

Melany Aquilera – Elgin High School     

Sophia Stallings – Central High School (Burlington)

Daniel Valdivia – Elgin High School

Hailey Williams – Central High School (Burlington)

Maggie Stallings - Central High School (Burlington)

Ximena Canizales-Herrera – Larkin High School

Caleb Goldenstein - Central High School (Burlington)

Sanaii McPherson – St. Edward Central High School

Marisela Alfaro - Elgin High School        

Alexis Olson – South Elgin High School


“These exceptional students have demonstrated determination, talent, and a strong dedication to serving others,” said Tony Lucenko, director of the Elgin Development Group. “We are excited to invest in the next generation of leaders and are confident they will make a lasting impact in their communities and careers.”

Scholarships were available to high school seniors who reside in Elgin or South Elgin. The scholarship criteria were based on the applicant’s scholastic achievement, interest in continuing education and career goals, participation, and leadership in school and community activities.
