About

SEED’s mission is to provide leadership in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive economic development plan for the Village of South Elgin. The primary focus is to identify needs and pursue solutions that ensure the long-term success of both the business community and the Village as a whole.

SEED focuses on several strategic areas:

Business Growth: Providing proactive recruitment support for new retail and commercial businesses, and supporting the retention and expansion of existing South Elgin businesses.

Government Liaison: Identifying, communicating, and supporting future economic development needs to local government.

District Development: Facilitating the marketing and development of the Village Center commercial district.

Community Support: Supporting, when practical, quality of life issues for South Elgin residents.

Integrity: Maintaining the highest level of confidence and trust on all inquiries and treating the needs and opinions of those served with respect.

 Redevelopment Strategy

SEED’s redevelopment efforts aim to attract revenue-producing commercial and industrial enterprises to better balance the tax base and reduce the Village’s reliance on residential property taxes.

Maximizing Potential: Work is focused on maximizing the potential of the Village Center and the LaFox Corridor Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District to deliver the greatest economic benefit.

Downtown Revitalization: The strategy is guided by a comprehensive downtown redevelopment plan to transform the existing Village Center into a dynamic civic, cultural, and entertainment center. The plan emphasizes a mixture of upscale residential, mixed-use commercial/retail buildings, and parks, often in "live/work" units.
