About
Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestras (EYSO) is a nationally recognized youth music organization dedicated to developing young musicians through exceptional orchestral training, performance opportunities, and comprehensive music education. Founded in 1976, EYSO serves students across the Chicago metropolitan area and beyond, fostering artistic excellence, creativity, leadership, and collaboration through a supportive and challenging musical environment.
Through a diverse range of orchestras, chamber ensembles, and specialized music programs, EYSO provides students of varying skill levels with opportunities to grow as performers and musicians. The organization offers full orchestras, string ensembles, brass and percussion programs, chamber music experiences, and innovative educational initiatives designed to help students build technical proficiency, confidence, and lifelong musical skills.
EYSO is committed to making high-quality music education accessible to all students through scholarships, community outreach, and tuition-free programs such as Starter Strings. Guided by a mission to enrich the lives of young musicians, their families, schools, and communities, the organization emphasizes critical thinking, curiosity, artistic exploration, and personal growth both on and off the stage.
As one of the Midwest’s premier youth orchestra organizations, EYSO continues to inspire the next generation of musicians through world-class instruction, professional mentorship, and outstanding performance opportunities. With a legacy spanning nearly five decades, the organization remains a leader in youth music education, empowering students to become accomplished artists, thoughtful leaders, and engaged members of their communities.
