About

Tyler Creek Forest Preserve's landscape is defined by Tyler Creek and its floodplain, bordered by picturesque oak-hickory forests on the steeper slopes. These diverse habitats are home to a variety of wildlife and have been the focus of ongoing habitat restoration programs, which have led to the re-emergence of several rare plant species. Tyler Creek Forest Preserve is a popular destination for both active recreation and peaceful immersion in nature. Its hiking trails wind through scenic woodlands and open areas, inviting visitors to explore. For those who enjoy sports, the preserve features ball diamonds. An excellent picnic area with reservable shelters (Shelter #1 and Shelter #2) makes it a great spot for family gatherings and outdoor meals. The preserve is also a significant access point for the Tyler Creek extension of the regional bike trail, which was installed in 1991 and has become a popular starting point for trail users. While the preserve doesn't have extensive long trails within its boundaries (around 0.31 miles of managed trails), its connection to the wider trail network makes it ideal for longer cycling adventures.
