Burnidge Forest Preserve, one of the largest preserves within the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, is a sprawling natural gem located in Elgin, Illinois. Spanning nearly 600 acres, it's renowned for its beautiful vistas and rolling terrain, offering a diverse landscape for outdoor enthusiasts. The preserve encompasses a rich tapestry of natural communities. You'll find oak woodlands covering the southwestern hills, seamlessly blending with marshland at lower elevations. A vast, restored prairie stretches to the north, showcasing the beauty of native Illinois ecosystems, while a small creek meanders towards Tyler Creek. Burnidge offers 9 miles of trails, catering to a variety of activities. This includes a 2.25-mile multi-purpose trail suitable for hiking, biking, and equestrian use. Most horse trails are natural surface, mowed grass paths, providing an authentic riding experience. Visitors can enjoy observing a wide diversity of wildlife thriving within these natural habitats.
