Description

The Kane County Board is hosting five town halls regarding the proposed Special County Retailers’ Occupation Tax Referendum. In September 2024, the Kane County Board approved placing this measure on the April 1 ballot to ask voters whether or not to establish a 0.75% sales tax dedicated exclusively to funding essential public safety services. Those services include the sheriff’s office, state’s attorney, public defender, coroner and circuit clerk. The proposed sales tax would add 75 cents per $100 spent on applicable retail purchases in Kane County, with exemptions for essential items such as groceries and prescription medications.
