The Elgin Area Chamber (EAC) Influencers / Brand Ambassadors recently had the pleasure of visiting one of the Chamber's newest members: State Street Market. Housed in a beautifully restored turn-of-the-century Millworks building, this unique shopping destination is a true gem in the heart of Elgin.

Stepping inside State Street Market is like embarking on a treasure hunt. With over 35 small, individually owned businesses under one roof, the market offers a curated collection of artisan collectibles, antiques, specialty items, unique gifts, home decor, and furniture. Despite its expansive 10,000 square feet, the entire space is handicap- accessible and all on one floor, making it a comfortable and convenient shopping experience for everyone.

During our visit, owner Susan McMenamin shared a presentation about the market's history and vision. We also had the unexpected treat of a tour led by Joe Kimball. (The Kimball family has a long and storied history in the Elgin community, and Joe's insights made the tour all the more special.)

EAC Influencers found it hard to stay focused on the tour amidst all the incredible items! Many of us, myself included, couldn't resist the allure of the unique treasures. (I left with a vintage 1970 Batman book for my son-in-law — the perfect unexpected find.)

State Street Market Shops has been a vibrant part of the Elgin area for a remarkable 43 years, since its establishment in 1982. Beyond being a fantastic place to shop, the market is a cornerstone of the community. They regularly host fundraisers for non-profit EAC members, including the Community Crisis Center, Anderson Humane, and the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Illinois. 

The market also celebrates the creativity of its vendors, many of whom are artisans who host workshops teaching crafts like needle felting, painting, and papercrafts.
