About
Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) of Elgin, Inc. was incorporated in 1989 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. We provide emergency shelter to men, women, and families experiencing homelessness from Elgin, Hanover, and Dundee Townships.
Our vision is to break the cycle of homelessness by comprehensively addressing the needs of the local homeless population. We have been a catalyst in fostering community and social service agency partnerships that effectively and efficiently provide coordinated services in support of short-term as well as longer-term customized care targeting client growth, development, and self-sufficiency. The shelter operates on a 12-month schedule that provides a safe and secure environment for our guests. Guests are provided a sleeping pad with linens, separate sleeping quarters for men, women/children, case management support, use of shower/laundry facilities, and three meals daily. In addition to providing shelter, we support guests with a comprehensive case management program. Our case managers work with each guest to create an action plan that addresses their individual needs. The offered services include money management and financial literacy, life skills, counseling, referrals, mental health assessments, substance abuse support, advocacy, employment, and educational opportunities.
