Garden Club Celebrates 100 Years: The Elgin Garden Club marked their 100th anniversary recently with a celebration at the historic Wing Mansion. Founded in 1916, the club meets 10-11 times per year to discuss horticultural trends, plan benefit projects and tour interesting local gardens. Member Cherie Murphy recently authored a book about the Elgin Garden Club which is available for sale at the  Elgin History Museum.

Elgin Recognition Awards Nominations: The Elgin Image Commission is seeking nominations for this year's Elgin Recognition Awards, which are presented posthumously to individuals that have made a significant contribution to Elgin. Categories include Architecture, Arts, Business, Communications, Education, Government/Public Service, Military Service, Science/Medicine, and Volunteerism. 35th Annual Historic House Tour: The Gifford Park Association (GPA) will hold its 35th Annual Historic Elgin House Tour on September 10 from 9am-4pm and September 11 from 12:30-4pm. Each year, the House Tour features a different historic neighborhood of Elgin. In 2016, seven homes from the Elgin Historic District will be featured. The interior tours of the homes are guided and interpreted and houses can be toured in any order. For tickets or additional information, visit www.gpaelgin.org.

Elgin Fringe Fest: The 3rd Annual Elgin Fringe Fest features four days of visual and performing arts at multiple venues throughout Elgin's downtown from September 15-18. Performance locations include, among others, the Elgin Art Showcase, Imago Creative Studios and First United Methodist Church. There will also be a Family Fringe at the Hemmens Cultural Center. Pour on the Promenade: On September 30 from 5-9pm the Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau presents their inaugural Pour on the Promenade event along the shores of the Fox River on Elgin's Riverside Drive Promenade. This 21-and-older event will feature beer and wine tastings, food trucks, artist booths, live music, cooking demonstrations, cigar rolling and a V.I.P. Stomp Challenge.
