ELGIN'S FIVE FABULOUS FACTS FOR NOVEMBER 2017

Elgin residents survey results: The City of Elgin recently announced the results of its residents survey conducted this past summer. Among the results, 76% of Elgin residents ranked Elgin as a good or excellent place to live, 58% of residents consider the City to be heading in the right direction, 88% of residents are very satisfied or satisfied with Elgin’s Police and Fire services, 75% of residents are very satisfied or satisfied with Elgin’s Water Utility services and 72% of residents are very satisfied or satisfied with Elgin’s Parks and Recreation programs and facilities. Elgin naturalist named to Sustainability Honor Roll: In October, the City of Elgin's Sustainability Honor Roll award was presented to naturalist Maura Neuffer. Since joining Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, she has helped the city address many goals of the Sustainability Action Plan and increased visitation to the nature center.

Together We Win: At its annual campaign kickoff reception, the United Way of Elgin recently presented its Jack Shales Spirit of Community Award to Elgin Sweeper Company for its outstanding commitment to corporate responsibility, as well as its support of the organization and its constituents for over 90 years. General Manager Mike Higgins and Human Resources Director Lisa Baran accepted the award.

#ILGive on #GivingTuesday: Elgin Gives is a new, collaborative effort of community leaders in the greater Elgin area to bring the power of philanthropy’s biggest day, Giving Tuesday, home to Elgin. Over 25 Elgin area non-profits are expected to participate in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving celebrated on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Mayor ot the Year: Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain was recently recognized by the United Hellenic Voters of America as the state's Mayor of the Year. Mayor Kaptain was nominated by Judson University Adjunct Professor Angelo Bravos, who is hopeful of working towards establishing a sister city relationship between Elgin and Trikala, Greece.
