Commission seeking Image Award nominations:

Elgin’s Image Advisory Commission is seeking nominations for its prestigious Image Awards, which recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations that have had a positive impact on Elgin. Awards are available to all ages in five categories: individual professional; individual volunteer; projects; organizations or businesses; and citizenship. Nomination forms are available at www.cityofelgin.org/imageawards or at City Hall. Nomination deadline is January 25, 2017

ECC named finalist for Bellweather Award:

Elgin Community College has been named a finalist for the third time in five years for the Bellweather Award by the Community College Futures Assembly (CCFA). The college is among 10 finalists for the 2017 award and was the only Illinois community college selected. ECC was nominated in the "Planning, Governance and Finance" category for its "Integrated Career and Academic Preparation System (ICAPS) - A Story of Success, Sustainability, and Scale".

MLK Day Celebration:

Each year, the City of Elgin Human Relations Commission takes great pride in presenting a weekend of activities celebrating the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's events include a food drive from January 2-15, the annual MLK Prayer Breakfast at Elgin Community College on January 14, a public program at The Hemmens on January 15, and a Youth Day of Service on January 16. New Elgin 311 app available:

The Elgin 311 mobile app's latest release (Version 1.2) is now available for Apple and Android users. The new release includes a fresh look, customizable push notifications, and a new seasonal information section. Users can now choose directly what types of push notifications to receive through the settings in the app's main menu. To download the app, search "Elgin 311" in the App Store or Google Play.

Congratulations to Elgin Area Chamber President/CEO Carol Gieske on being named one of the Daily Herald Business Ledger's 18 Most Influential Women in Business for 2016.
