Elgin's Employment Levels Stable
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES)recently released monthly employment numbers for Illinois municipalities, counties, and metropolitan districts for March 2023. The unemployment rate went down from the same month last year from 8.2% to 7.6%. The unemployment rate continues to remain relatively strong despite talks of a recession that is yet to materialize.
The IDES provides us with statistics on the number of people in Elgin’s labor force (57,030), the number of people that are employed (52,722) and the number of people that are unemployed (4,308) in March 2023. The percentage of Elginites that are unemployed in Cook County is at 8.2%, while the percentage people in Kane County that are unemployed is also at 7.3%. These numbers are lower than they were in March of 2022 as a comparison.
