Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Food for Greater Elgin located in Elgin, IL is a client-choice pantry serving 6,000 people per month. We are seeking a full-time individual to assist with the coordination of our volunteers and facilitate four of the five food distribution shifts we provide per week.  The candidate should have a pleasant, outgoing personality who is comfortable in a fast paced environment and most importantly enjoys working with a diverse group of people. The hours for this position are:
Tuesday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday 9:00 am – 5:00pm.
Thursday 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday 7:00 a. m. – 3:00 p.m.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Manage and facilitate daily operations during four food distributions per week.
  • Ensure there is appropriate volunteer coverage
  • Conduct volunteer orientations to educate potential volunteers and donors about FFGE.
  • Provide training of various volunteer positions, safety and procedural protocols.
  • Assist with recruitment of individual volunteers and volunteer groups in conjunction with needs of daily operations and departments.
  • Maintain documentation for volunteer and Community Service Program hours of service.
  • Maintain databases and undertake any other administrative duties.
  • Assist with organization and participation in volunteer recognition and special events as needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Outstanding problem solving capabilities and organization skills under pressure
  • Flexible, patient and easily adapt to change
  • Ability to work productively with frequent interruptions
  • Proficient with MS Office and Volunteer Management Database
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a nonprofit environment
  • Volunteer Database experience a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people
  • Experience of managing or coordinating projects and volunteers
  • An empathy with volunteers and an understanding of their needs
  • The capacity to inspire and motivate others
  • The ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
  • Flexible and non-judgmental approach to people and work.
COMPENSATION:
$13.00 - $15.00 (per hour)
