Job Summary

Food for Greater Elgin located in Elgin, IL is a client-choice pantry serving 6,000 people per month. We are seeking a full- time Director of Development. This position reports to the Executive Director (ED) and is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of the organization’s fundraising, marketing and communication efforts. This individual will lead the efforts in the design and implementation of a comprehensive and strategic development program including major gift donor development, grant writing, annual fund, special events management and special campaigns. This individual will work closely with the ED and the Board of Directors in all development and communications endeavors to include strategic planning and budgeting initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with the ED and the Advancement Committee to create and implement the revenue strategy to achieve revenue objectives.
  • Develop and achieve the annual fundraising goal.
  • In conjunction with the ED and in consultation with the Board, create a written, diversified, metrics-driven development plan with objectives, timelines, and assignment of responsibilities to reach fundraising goal. Create an annual development calendar of activities.
  • Work with ED to create the development and marketing budget to support the yearly plan.
  • Personally identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of potential leadership and major gift donors including individual donors and family foundations, corporations, and foundation grant writing.
  • In conjunction with the ED and the Board, develop relationships with community leadership with focus on building collaborative relationships that support Food for Greater Elgin’s mission and opportunities to engage with surrounding communities.
  • Create and implement a strategic communication plan, in collaboration with the ED and Director of Community Outreach, including brochures, newsletters, direct mail, advertising, website content, e-blasts, social media, seminars, and events to raise funds and awareness.
  • Serve as a key liaison in arranging for speaking and media opportunities for the ED and also serve as a spokesperson for the organization as needed.
  • Collaborate with ED and Director of Community Outreach to engage in networking opportunities in the community that will create greater awareness of Food for Greater Elgin and increase its reputation in the community.
  • Oversee special events and donor database operations
  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Development and event, media or other consultants.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must embrace the mission of Food for Greater Elgin
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills
  • Previous experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gifts
  • Previous experience in grant writing
  • Ability to communicate with staff, board members and volunteers
  • Ability to build and maintain external relationships
  • Must be a “self-starter”
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $50,000.00 to $55,000.00 /year
