Maintenance Worker I - Water & Sewer Division
The South Elgin Public Works Department is a dynamic organization serving a community of roughly 24,000 residents in the far western suburbs of Chicago. We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Worker I for the Water & Sewer Division of the Public Works department. This position is under the general supervision of the Water Production Foreman, Water Superintendent and the Director of Public Works. The primary focus of this position will be a variety of tasks, including but not limited to the maintenance and repair of the water supply, pumping, storage and distribution system as well as the sanitary collection systems and associated lift stations. This position repairs and maintains equipment in compliance with generally accepted standards and regulations.
Qualifications include two (2) years of experience in the Utility Services and/or construction industry, graduation from high school or GED equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A Class C Water Operators License issued by the ILEPA is desired. Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. In addition, a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with air-brake endorsement and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months is required.
Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Response to after-hours call-backs seven days a week, including evenings, weekends and holidays and in preparation for impending emergency conditions, as necessary (e.g., snow removal, watermain repairs, etc.) is required. Work includes primarily outdoor work in various types of weather conditions.
The Village of South Elgin offers an excellent compensation package with a starting salary of $27.23 per hour. The salary range for this position is $27.23 - $34.13 per hour, adjusted annually. This position is represented by a union.
