If you can speak and read English, you can help! Local adults need help learning English and improving their reading skills. The Literacy Connection is offering a Volunteer Tutor Training on January 16, 18, 29 and 31 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 North Grove Avenue, Elgin, IL. The first hour of training will be a no-obligation introduction to the volunteer tutoring program. The remaining time is the training. In the first hour, you can learn about the program for free. If you like what you learn, you are welcome to complete the training. There is a $35 charge for the training, background check, and tutoring strategies book. More than seventy adults with limited English or low literacy skills are waiting for a tutor right now. Adults need to improve their English and literacy skills to get or maintain employment, read to their children, become naturalized citizens, and participate in the community. Registration is recommended. Please call The Literacy Connection at 847-742-6565, email info@elginliteracy.org, or visit www.elginliteracy.org to learn more about the organization or to register for the training workshop.
